Try setting up a news server account without an email address and see 
what happens. The "Next" button is grayed out until you add one, doesn't 
have to be a real address tho but you have to enter "something" in the 
box before you can proceed.

That's what I mean by "associated email address", the one you enter when 
setting up a news account.
