You can fix your own Firefox so new tabs go to a blank page.

1.  In the location bar, type 
         about:config
    and press the Enter key.
2.  Click  "I'll be careful, I Promise!"
3.  Search for the preference named
        browser.newtab.url
4.  Right-click on the preference browser.newtab.url,
    choose "Modify" from the right-click menu,
    and change the value to 
        about:blank


I like the new "speed dial" page myself, but if you don't then you can 
change it.
