I'll add my two cents, when I compiled everything with libiconv and the
version changed (glibc) or similiar, I had massive problems.

libiconv is 'in' glibc anyway

Ever since then I have stopped compiling programs with explicit libiconv
support I have had not had an issue.

I run Slack 9 & 2.4.20/1 as well.
