Is there any successful avifile-0.7-0.7.38 installation on Redhat 9.0?

Hi, all:

I have tried many times to install avifile-0.7-0.7.38
on my redhat linux 9.0. It keeps giving the error
message: "ar: cputest.lo: Too many levels of symbolic
links".

Is there anyone got solution to this problem?
