Hello,

I'd like to report following problems with dvdauthor code git HEAD (commit
20e3578 , as of 20100510):

Problem 1 (infamous "ERR: SCR moves backwards, remultiplex input" again):
=========================================================================
(I consider this to be the most serious one):

in dvdauthor.xml:

<dvdauthor dest="/tmp/out">
   <titleset>
     <menus>
       <pgc>
         <vob file="T.mpg" />
       </pgc>
     </menus>
     <titles>
       <video aspect="16:9" />
       <pgc>
         <vob file="T.mpg" />
       </pgc>
     </titles>
   </titleset>
</dvdauthor>

$ dvdauthor -x dvdauthor.xml
DVDAuthor::dvdauthor, version 0.6.18+.
Build options: gnugetopt graphicsmagick iconv freetype fribidi fontconfig

T.mpg has been created this way:
1. recorded raw MPEG TS
2. dvbcut used to cut the TS with frame precision, and exported out
    as MPEG PS
3. ffmpeg used to cut particular short part out of the resulting PS

I want to avoid remuxing T.mpg at all cost. T.mpg has A/V perfectly
in sync, plays in mplayer, xine, etc. - all I've tested with, and even
when I put it on a medium as a bare file and then try to play it in my
DVD player, it plays fine. From my experiences in the past I had trouble
finding decent cutting software that would keep the A/V in sync after
remuxing exactly as it was in the original, or wouldnt require some sort
of odd black magic like delaying start of audio ES by unknown time using
an arbitrary number (avidemux). Lets just say that I want to stick
with dvbcut, as I dont know of anything more useful on Linux..
(and yes I know about transcode, ffmpeg and possibility to do all of
this processing in commandline, but given the need to occasionally
inspect this process manually results in tedious task..)

Earlier, I've never had problems with dvdauthor authoring DVD from
a MPEG PS created this way, but now, it seems that even though dvdauthor
now incorporates the "ivtv" patch changes, it still does not prevent
one from receiving this awkward SCR error...

The sample 'T.mpg' MPEG PS I do tests on, including the dvdauthor.xml,
can be downloaded from ftp://ftp.unob.cz/pub/testcases/dvdauthor/ .

Problem 2 (ERR replies contradicting each other):
=================================================

(dvdauthor.xml content same as in the first case)

$ dvdauthor --video=pal+16:9+720x576 -x dvdauthor.xml
DVDAuthor::dvdauthor, version 0.6.18+.
Build options: gnugetopt graphicsmagick iconv freetype fribidi fontconfig

INFO: no default video format, must explicitly specify NTSC or PAL
ERR: Must first specify -t, -m, or -x.

$ dvdauthor -x dvdauthor.xml --video=pal+16:9+720x576
DVDAuthor::dvdauthor, version 0.6.18+.
Build options: gnugetopt graphicsmagick iconv freetype fribidi fontconfig

INFO: no default video format, must explicitly specify NTSC or PAL
ERR: Cannot use command line options after specifying XML config file

The conclusion: if I supply --video prior -x, it tells me to specify
-x as the first parameter. If I do, it tells me I can't use options past
specifying -x . This is in contradiction.

# Problem 3 (dvdauthor refuses to create dvd without Video TitleSet Menu):
==========================================================================

(note that this did work with dvdauthor 0.6.10)

in dvdauthor.xml:

<dvdauthor dest="/tmp/out">
   <titleset>
     <titles>
       <video aspect="16:9" format="pal" />
       <pgc>
         <vob file="T.mpg" />
       </pgc>
     </titles>
   </titleset>
</dvdauthor>

$ dvdauthor -x dvdauthor.xml
DVDAuthor::dvdauthor, version 0.6.18+.
Build options: gnugetopt graphicsmagick iconv freetype fribidi fontconfig
Send bug reports to <dvdauthor-users-5NWGOfrQmneRv+LV9MX5uipxlwaOVQ5f@public.gmane.org>

INFO: no default video format, must explicitly specify NTSC or PAL
INFO: dvdauthor creating VTS
STAT: Picking VTS 01
ERR: no video format specified for VTSM

This happens even though manpage clearly says that <titleset> may contain
UP TO ONE <menus> tag (so if I wont specify a menu, it should proceed
with authoring as well). So if I specify no <menus>, the bailout
shouldnt happen.

(btw, it would be nice to include some more explanations about what these
- for joe-blow user cryptic - messages really mean... I had to google up
'VTSM'. And when we speak about docs, it would be really nice to include
the following intro with dvdauthor:
http://radagast.bglug.ca/linux/dvd_authoring/dvd_authoring.html ; at least
me found it extremely useful).

Should you need my assistance in testing bugfixes for this, then please
do not hesitate to tell me; I'll do what I can.

Best regards,

Jan
