I don't think those are proper DVD-Video players. In DVD-Video, you need
to provide a menu for language selection, which will set the right value
in the system register that selects which (if any) subpicture stream to
display.

This example doesn't include any such menus.

Remember, the true test is to burn a DVD, put it in a consumer player,
and see what it does. The next best thing (to avoid wasting a disc) is
to use Ogle. True, that's a dead project and not fully reliable as a
player, but it seems to do the best job of showing you whether your
menus are working properly or not.
