You have a command line for that? I was only aware that for certain 
video formats and if all of them are identical in a number of 
parameters, it is possible to concatenate the videos by concatenating 
the files.
Apparently, for videos that are all created with ffmpeg's "-target pal-
dvd", this seems to be the case, after what you write.

Yeah, that's right, but then I'm more flexible w.r.t. changing the 
display length of the slide, without having to recreate slide.mpg. Then 
I think I'll go for this approach.
