dvd author make anamorphgic from 4:3?

Hi,

I used ffmpeg to take an avi to mpg, using 4:3 aspect, ntsc, etc.

With that mpg i used dvdauthor to create my VIDEO_TS. However, the video, when i look at it in vlc, etc looks squshed. It needs the black bars at the top and bottom (anamorphic?). 

How can i get dvdauthor to do this? Should use some other aspect? I tried 4:3 and 16:9.
