Par for the course with FFmpeg, I’m afraid. Things keep changing all
the time. There was a time a few years ago when I couldn’t get it to
convert a sequence of JPEG framest to MPEG movies, because of some
incompatibility between different parts to do with bitmap colour
spaces (or at least the default ones).

On the plus side, it usually emerges from the breakage better than
before. :)

I think I hit that with the pad settings for a while.

Hmmm ... why should -aspect be replaced with a video filter? It’s
nothing more than a flag setting in the MPEG stream.
