Did some experimenting. Noticed that apparently there is no issue with
the first subtitle file. replaced all subtitle files with the first
file. Tried spumuxing and it failed on the second subtitle file.
Thus, the issue is not about the subtitle file content as there is no
difference between first and second file.

Now the good question is, what is the issue then?
Apparently, something has changed either in the linux distribution
(fedora 16) or the binaries. The binaries report same version level, so
I doubt it's the dvd-author binaries, but I don't totally rule that one out.

I'm not the only one who has encountered this issue, there is another
Finn with same issue:

One of the replies suspect it has something to do with libpng, but that
is later found out not to be the case. (IMO: one should not look at the
..png file content being the problem here as I noticed earlier).
