Though they still seem to have trouble with double-layer writables. :)

That seems more likely. FFmpeg is a regularly-moving target, and it
seems like once or twice a year, some old way of doing things stops
working and you have to find the new, improved way. But the -target
options have been in there for a few years now, and they seem to work
fine.
