Turns out I can reproduce this crash with any command of the form
dvdauthor -o out -m whatever.mpg
I also tried a build of 0.6.14 (the last release before I started
hacking on it), and that crashes too, though GDB reports it in a
slightly different place (two lines earlier).
It appears what you’re trying to do here is generate a menu with no
title. Any reason you’re not using an XML control file to generate
your whole disc structure at once?
