headers. For situations like yours, what I normally do is open *two*
compose windows - a blank one which starts the new thread and a reply
one that contains the quoted material. Then, I copy and paste from the
reply window to the new thread as needed. Just don't accidentally hit
send in the reply window though. LOL.

This reminds me of an incident that happened back in my early undergraduate
days (1988) at Ga Tech. For a sophomore Computer Science class, we were
shown how to use email for the first time. Back in those days the web did
not yet exist and we had to do all of our email from a console application
(probably mail or elm, as even mutt and pine didn't exist) running on a
Unix (or maybe it was NOS/VE) mainframe.

Anyway, one of the students (it wasn't me) didn't like the professor
(John Goda) and used his new email skills to send a nasty prank message 
to the prof - taking care not to manually enter his own name or email
address in the message thinking that that would keep things totally
anonymous. He didn't consider that the system automatically added a
From: header. I was told Prof. Goda sent him a polite reply and further
enlightenment about how email worked. LOL!
