I have had similar issues with with a Sony blu-ray player that did not 
like the number of buttons in my menu, even though the number was 
withing the DVD sepc.

I think the blu-ray vendors take  short cuts with the DVD specifications.

Not much you can do other than try different menu layouts and rules to 
try to get it to work.
