creating DVD from something other than 4:3/16:9

Hello, Normally using ffmpeg with -target ntsc-dvd or -target pal-dvd then following up with dvdauthor works great. But on something other than 4:3/16:9 for example if the aspect ratio is 2.40:1 then the resulting DVD has its aspect ratio changed and no longer looks good.
