Remote control focus by moving camera

I am using Python/Arduino to control a carriage from which I am taking a mosaic of photos, using Olympus E-M5 ii. The shutter is controlled by hacking the USB cable. I should like to control the manual focus at a constant distance/magnification by moving the camera up and down automatically - like the lens AF system. Has anyone tackled this problem?
