It's for aurora physics. But high megapixel is not thing that matters that
much, large pixels do though.

The Sony A7s is mostly for easy to understand images, for the science we've
got other cameras which cost A LOT more than the a7s.

USB webcams can be good, you just need to buy them from the
manufacturers,like for instance https://www.e-consystems.com/ (I've used
one of their cameras on a project), and mount your own lenses

But if the sx100 is that good it sounds like a good choice.
