libgphoto2 won't update

Hello. I have been trying to get gphoto2 to work for a while with my Canon 80D. As far as I can tell I installed everything correctly, and gphoto2 runs and works with my old T1i, but no matter what I do I cannot get libgphoto2 to update.

I installed gphoto2-2.5.15 and libgphoto2.5.16 from source, in that order. However, when I run {gphoto2 --version} it shows libgphoto2 is still 2.5.9. I have tried everything I can find via a web search, but nothing has worked.

I appreciate any help. Including directing me to use the developer mailing list if need be - I'm new here, so I'm not sure if this is the right one. Thanks.

Here is the --debug log if anybody needs it:
