Never mind, I found it. I had plugged my Motorola cell phone into my USB hub to charge without thinking and it was working as a PTP device. I don't specify a camera model so that's what I was getting. I knew it had to be something simple and stupid. I was playing around with gphoto2 shell mode and figured it out.
