nikon d300 live view

Bonjour, I try to connect my nikon d300 on a computer and use the live view stuff. gphoto2 claims that it is possible to do so with this camera but I failed: it is impossible to lift the mirror if you connect the camera via an usb ports: either you lift the mirror before to connect it, and as soon as you connect the camera the mirror falls down.... or you try to lift the mirror while the camera is connected and this is impossible: the adhoc config tag is not highlited in the menu if the camera is connected! What is the magic to use live view with this camera?
