What about folders?  Have the camera making folders and shooting into
them but the download never goes into the latest/current folder?
Assuming the problem comes from something in the camera scanning the
current folder, like to make some index, but finding things missing.
Can you turn off indexing in the camera's settings?  You delete from
the camera as you download I assume.

I assume another camera of the same model would work the same way.
Wifi?  There used to be a memory card, maybe only in CompactFlash
days, that sent the pictures over WiFi instead of storing them.
Eye-Fi, my Nikon D5200 manual mentions them.  I've never seen one.
