I updated my laptop to Ubuntustudio 20.04 That has libgphoto2-6 2.5.24-1
tethering sort of works, very slow to react. The camera doesn't show
any movement in front of the lens. Once there is a picture on the
monitor it does not change even if the scene does.  I am not too sure
what to expect. 



I went
through the debug list in the manual it is enclosed.
