Grip and i18n

I know that there are still problems with Grip's support for 
international character sets. There are a number of patches up on sf.net 
that relate to this. My problem is that I don't have a good way to test 
them.

I would much appreciate any feedback on:

 a) What issues you currently have with Grip's handling of various charsets.
 b) Any experience (good or bad) with trying any of the patches on sf.net.
