Machine-Gun ?

I'm having some problem here ripping on Debian Sarge, 3.2.0-3;
Linux whatever 2.6.8-2-686 #1 Mon Jan 24 03:58:38 EST 2005 i686 GNU/Linux.

Ripping is done, but the ogg-files sooner or later simply sound like a 
machine-gun. Some from the very first moment, others later. I tried 2 
CDs; I also simply played them with grip: everything okay.

Yes, I tried to add ATA:0,1,0; the one xcdroast finds. But then it 
doesn't rip at all and simply skips all tracks.

Any hints ?
