Bob,
I believe that your problem is that you are entering the mount point of
the cdrom. try /dev/cdrom, and to be sure, use:
	ls /dev/cdrom -l
This will show where the device is linked to (should be another place
in /dev, like /dev/cdroms/ or /dev/hdc
I'm not sure how permissions work in /dev, but if you can mount cds with
your user, grip ought to be able to use it.
