I can't reproduce your 128 bit error, but I can encode MP3 in Grip with your command line when I trail it with %w %m : Encoder executable: /usr/bin/lame Encoder command-line: --alt-preset extreme -q 0 -V 0 -m s %w %m Incidentally... * The "-q 0" setting has been changed (I think a few times, to an "experimental" setting) since LAME version 3.90, and may not do what you think it does. (And no this isn't well documented.) Nothing wrong with experimenting, but if you're after maximum quality, LAME "-q" settings aren't worth the trouble. * "-m s" can introduce errors at extremely high bitrates -- joint stereo, when properly implemented (e.g., in LAME), really is a good idea. more on joint stereo: http://tinyurl.com/cb8kq recommended LAME settings: http://tinyurl.com/4gc8a (My apologies if this is stuff you already know.) My current LAME parameters in Grip: --alt-preset extreme --tt "%n" --ta "%a" --tl "%d" --ty "%y" --tn "%t" --tg "%g" %w %m >I'm also wondering if any one knows how to encode with oggenc to the equivalent of this lame encoding I am attempting (vbr, extreme, stereo)? > > I'm not aware of a vorbis setting that forces non-joint stereo. If you wanna go higher than that, you might consider a non-lossy codec, such as FLAC. My vorbis settings: Encoder executable: /usr/bin/oggenc-gt3 Encoder command-line: -q 6 -a %a -l %d -t %n -c "tracknumber=%t" -c "genre=%G" -d %y -c "ENCODER=Grip (cdparanoia > oggenc-gt3 q6)" -c "SOURCEMEDIA=CD" -o %m %w Someone at hydrogenaudio.org recommends this setting: oggenc -q 6 --advanced-encode-option impulse_trigger_profile=5 Don't ask me what that all means. I use oggenc-gt3 to encode q5 or better, and oggenc-aotuv to encode < q5 . I encode Ogg for my own use, MP3 for benighted friends.
