Bah, sorry for not reading carefully enough.

What you want then is really an encode version of the disc filter
command.  It can't be too hard to hack grip for this.  If you're
nimble with copy and paste and mildy familiar with C, I'm sure it's
doable to add this.  If not, maybe file a request for enhancement on
the sourceforge page and maybe someone will give this a shot.  In
fact, it might be worth checking the SF page to see if anyone already
has made patches for this (if you haven't done so, that is).

Honestly, I don't know if there are any differences in the config
options, and it's been a while since I switched, so I'd have forgotten
them by now if I ever noticed them. :)
