I use Grip on KDE without any problems at all. I too switched from abcde to
grip.

As for changing options, there is a options tab so no need do edit the
config files. It's easier from the GUI itself.

As to what apps to use it is very simple to change to whatever apps you
want. Just change the path for the various utilities. For example in my copy
I'm using lame in /usr/bin. You can also modify the options to lame and
other utils in the same place.

The only gotcha that I've run accross is in the naming convention. The
default sux. Getting the stanard artist-songname is a little like voodoo.
~/nusnd/%A/%d/%a-'%n.mp3  is an example of the endcoding format to change
the naming scheme.

You can also set it to do variable bit encoding.

Overall I'm very happy with Grip.
