Hey, about the ipod - no religious wars here, I'm sure that if you follow the use pattern that it was intended to follow, you have a very good portable device.

thx, i do and i have installed lame 3.97 and am using it.
it is some config error in setup i think as the rip works fine,
but dies right away on the attempt to open/write the encoding file out...

it went in clean, but i got a problem.

it may be that i had grip 3.0.4, then upgraded to 3.2.0

i understand and respect your decision. in my case, i and my daughter 
are using this
as a learning experience. she is using the large ipod and windoz, i am 
using the
nano and linux.
