Check the output of "locale" (and post it). Also make sure that you have
Config -> Misc -> "Allow high bits in filenames" enable. And look
at your settings in Config -> ID3 -> * "Character set encoding".

I don't have any experience with non-latin1 characters in grip, but
perhaps somebody else can help if you give more details.

Can you describe that "gibberish" and "no luck" a bit more precisely?
Are the filenames wrong? Or the names of the songs as you see them in
grip? Or the names of the songs in the encoded files (i.e. the id3 tags
or ogg comments)?

Also, please post the output of

  echo $G_FILENAME_ENCODING
  echo $G_BROKEN_FILENAMES
