If you have a lot of free space [1] on the external device and you
know what it gets mounted as (I'm not familiar with Knoppix, but I
expect it's something like /media/sda1 ?), you could change the paths
in
  Config -> Rip -> Ripper -> Rip file format 
and 
  Config -> Encode -> Encoder -> Encode file format
to point to /media/sda1/%A/%d....mp3, for example.


[1] Enough space to rip a few tracks onto the MP3 player until the
encoder catches up and the .wav files are deleted.


Does that make sense?
