Grip Rips Are Too Loud

I have seen clipping on some tracks after ripping as well.
I just assumed that the track was badly mastered and hand been
over compressed / amplified.  The new digital remixes of old vinyl records
result in questionable "improvements". People just love to fix what
ain't broken.
So if the track is already a mess, the resulting ripped track should
reflect this.  Give the track a good hard listen at volume. Can you
hear any clipping ?
Now, if my assumption that the original CD track is already clipping is
wrong, then we have a real problem. And I'd like to know what to do
about it as well.
So far, this clipping problem has been rare.
