After you get something built, either splay (the simple command line player) or perhaps the larger RealPlayer for Ubuntu that you downloaded, you can see what interests you. It is open source, so as you know, you can just dive in. You can sign up for the player- dev mailing list to get some ideas of what might need to be done. You could suggest something entirely new and work on it. You just need to follow the code review process as outlined on the Helix site. --greg.
