Helix is coming to the Android Platform!

The new Open-source mobile Operating System, Android, is now picking up
momentum and has moved beyond a clever idea to a potential leading force
in the mobile handset industry. The Open Handset Alliance, which is a
group of more than 30 technology and mobile companies are involved with
the development of Android and claim it as a complete, open, and free
mobile platform. This aligns Android right along side the Helix media
platform and presents a compelling opportunity to port the Helix DNA
Client to further meet the Helix Community=E2=80=99s goal of building a
universal digital media playback engine that supports playback on any
device.

The basic Operating System and Platform Porting effort has been led by
existing Helix Community developers who will continue to ensure the
Porting process reaches completion. The project can be found at
https://android-port.helixcommunity.org. Like all Helix Community
efforts, the Android project is a great opportunity to expand the reach
and feature set of the Helix media engine.
