I bypassed this problem by editing /etc/fstab. Add 'devmode=0666' to the usbfs 
entry. However this is not read during the boot process. I have to manually 
umount / mount usbfs after boot.  I tried to add "-o devmode=0666" 
to /etc/init.d/kbd with no success. Don't know why.
