Re: MTP extensions

An update...

On the licensing side, I've read the agreements and am more or less  
certain that we are allowed to implement and distribute an MTP  
library under any licence we want.  But, as Ace said, let's not link  
it with libnjb just yet in case there are issues.  So all my stuff  
will be released under the GPL (which it must as it's using libptp  
which is GPL).

So I think the only remaining question on this front is about the  
enhanced MTP spec.  The licence gives an email address to ask about  
this.  We'd have to use this to get the track list off the device  
quickly.  Currently, with a few thousand tracks, it takes maybe a  
couple of minutes to download the info because every field of every  
track has to be requested separately.

Technically, and more interestingly, I have implemented and tested to  
varying degrees pretty much all that is needed for a bare bones  
implementation:

Track & file upload/download
Setting/retrieving tag info
Playlists
Player info

So what I plan to do is release a version of XNJB with code in a few  
days with all this in.  Then hopefully people will use it to help fix  
all the bugs and give feedback.  Then the code needs a lot of tidying  
up, in particular a reasonable interface needs to be written, with a  
view to building a common interface with libnjb.  I doubt I'll have  
time to do this before Easter as my holiday is nearly up!
