I just released libmtp 0.0.1 as a proof-of-concept thing. This is based on Richard Low's sources, what I've done is basically port to Linux (should be platform-independent and run anywhere libusb is available really), then construct a library interface similar to libnjb (but with lessons learnt from libnjb) and added a few sample programs very similar to the stuff from libnjb, or more or less verbatim copied. What works: * detecting, including getting owner string and battery level * sending tracks * getting tracks * deleteing tracks TODO: * regular files in both directions * playlists * setting owner name * ...more Links: * http://libmtp.sourceforge.net/ Richard: you'll not want to use this until I've ported all the stuff you already have in XNJB, but if you have spare time you could see if the stuff compiles on Mac and can run the samples...
