usb_set_configuration

I have recently upgraded to Fedora Core 5 and libnjb-2.2.5/gnomad2-2.8.3. I find that I can now only open the jukebox as root; if I try to do it as myself, I get a message saying "usb_set_configuration: operation not permitted". I tried using handshake from the commnad line and exactly the same thing happened: everything is ok if I do it as root but I get the same message if I do handshake as myself. My guess is this is not really a libnjb issue but something to do with my usb setup? Thanks in advance for any help.
