Absolutely. But that leads us back to what I said initially: no one has
cared enough to invest the time. As this is all a tradeoff between the
various projects I spend time on, I'm simply not valuing this type of
improvement very high. The libraries are good enough for what I need in
MKVToolNix. For me my work on MKVToolNix itself and on the Matroska specs
is much more important than evolutionary work on the libraries (fixing
bugs, especially security-sensitive ones, ranks higher, of course).

No aversion. More classes in the hierarchy just make things more complex &
maybe a bit more confusing (and using standalone functions wouldn't modify
the ABI).

It's definitely not a hill I would die on.
