I understand your point. But is ffmpeg able to handle audio ? With low 
latency ? Sample accurate (seeking) ? With backward playback ? 
Cross-platform ? Speed efficient ? etc

Actually I think we should throw all our ideas of things we want to be 
able to do at different stages (source, filter, renderer). And see what 
is good in every project.

 From that wishlist we could see what existing projects can match 
(already or with extensions) or cannot.
