because GStreamer passes a set of cleverly predefined messages while 
libmatroska needs to (dis)assemble them.
And because we're neither forwards nor backwards compatible, only sideways. 
(meaning you can do all kinds of stuff with the current GStreamer version, but 
when the next major version comes out, you'll at least need a recompile)
