Hi folks, since there are have very strong efforts for legalizing software patents in Europe, we should carefully thing about our patent policy. Do we want to take care of them or simply ignore this probem ? If we would, we have to design around them (this also would mean not any thought of compatibility w/ DirectShow, etc). It will be a very hard and not 100% solvable job, since we cant really know whats patented, until an patent owner files a lawsuit against us. The only real chance to get out of this is to do evrything whats needed to prevent legalization of software patents in Europe and let the project be HQed here in Europe. We from the FFII are acting against those folks (i.g. lawyers) who want patentability of software and business methods in the European Parliament. All help is really needed and welcomed! Is is important to show politicians, tat we do _NOT_ want lawyers to steal our intellectual work (software) by patentings ideas of what software should do (thats what software patensts in short words ar really for) http://patinfo.ffii.org/ http://petition.eurolinux.or/ cu -- --------------------------------------------------------------------- Enrico Weigelt == metux IT services phone: +49 36207 519931 www: http://www.metux.de/ fax: +49 36207 519932 email: [email protected] cellphone: +49 174 7066481 --------------------------------------------------------------------- Diese Mail wurde mit UUCP versandt. http://www.metux.de/uucp/
