Thank you so much for clearing this up.

Actually, the installation wasn't quite clean; I had installed the 
codecs, uninstalled them, and then upgraded my version of WMP, and then 
re-installed them, so this would make for why the file associations 
appeared at installation of WMP.

This is also some very nice background information, nice to know! I also 
think the installation process is very nice, very simple, easy to 
follow, and not bloated. Excellent work.

As for the 'unofficial' endings I think they're a great workaround as 
long as .OGG's there :) I'm happy that all is well.
