Hello all, Is Xiph.org doing any lobbying for Vorbis to be included in the DAB-2 standard? DAB (digital audio broadcasting) has been widely adopted in the UK, but it has quality problems because the codec is MP2 on a 128k/bit stream. This in turn is because the standard was originally laid out in the 1980's, and later the bitrate was cut to 128k to allow more stations per transmitter. As a consequence, most audiophiles in the UK are hanging on to their FM receivers for now, even though DAB has more stations. So there is pressure to define a DAB-2 standard, which may specify an AAC or Windows Media codec (uggh!). According to Wikipedia, DAB-2 is due to be launched this year. Therefore it might be very timely for Xiph.org to contact the World DAB Technical Committee: http://www.worlddab.org/current.aspx?sub=16 Cheers! Daniel
