See also iPod (apparently consumers were persuaded to swallow it).
Right down to "brokeness of DRM in general," as I mentioned above.
However I believe you could open-spec a DRM system, it would
be no weaker than a proprietary one, but ultimately you have to
trust the end user.  Of course DRM is no longer really about stopping
the organised counterfeiter and hasn't been for some time.
