Hi! 1. The output file format from the encoder is OGG. It's the same file format used by Ogg Vorbis. It can hold audio or video (or both). It's just an container. Not compatible with any standard. But this should not be a problem because once Tarkin will be ready it's bitstream will be easily incorporated in any major file format out there(AVI, Mpeg4, Mov,...). 2. To answer question 2 one must know the platform you are trying to test it. Beside this you must know that at this point Tarkin is experimental and it does not have "motion compensation" code in it. It's like compressiong frame after frame but not taking into acount the redundancy across the frames (simplified: just like a bunch of "Jpeg" file in one big file). I guess it's little premature to test it with lots of frames. I test it with one frame at a time. For this I "wrote" a simple PPM viewer (on Windows) and I test Tarkin with that. At this time my application does not handle PPM seqvences but only one PPM at a time. 3. I think there is none at this time, but I'm not sure. But decoding the OGG stream outputs the PPM /PGM files and you can look at those after that. But you can always write one player :) At this stage much is focused on improving the math part of tarkin. That's the hard part... I hope it helped. If not, just ask more.
