how to create executables in .libs directory

hi all, when make the libtheora-1.0beta2, it just create two new hidden directory in example director named as .libs and .deps . I know that the executables are created in the .libs directory. Please can anyone tell me where it is specified that these executables are create in the .libs directory..?
