Yes. The patch had bit rotted a bit, but I did my best to merge  
without breaking anything. It went is as r14714. The Visual Studio  
project file in particular may not be great. Please check it out and  
forward any necessary patches.

Also, someone please check that we still work with gcc on x86_64.
