Embedding the Cortado applet into non-GPLed Web pages

From what one understands, the Cortado Java applet is licensed under the GPL (with some parts possibly licensed under the LGPL or different licenses.) The question is, can the Cortado applet be legitimately embedded into Web pages that are not licensed under the GPL (i.e. the HTML and content of the page is licensed under a different license)?
