(Sorry about the lack of markup. I can't remember the XML format at the moment.) Q: Can I add ID3 tags to my Ogg Vorbis files? A: ID3 tags should never be used with Ogg Vorbis files. Some rippers in the past have erroneously added ID3 tags to Ogg Vorbis files, but this should be considered a bug and reported to the software author. The presence of ID3 tags can confuse players and sometimes render files unplayable until the ID3 tags are manually removed. Ogg Vorbis has no need of ID3 because Vorbis has a <a href="http://www.xiph.org/ogg/vorbis/doc/v-comment.html">superior</a> tagging mechanism built in, called "comments." Many programs exist that can edit Vorbis comments, and most rippers create properly commented Vorbis files automatically. Nearly all players will display the track information found in the Vorbis comments, so ID3 really is unnecessary. (And if they don't, you should request that feature from the author.) --- Stan Seibert --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to '[email protected]' containing only the word 'unsubscribe' in the body.
